For a 50s villa in Rotterdam Kralingen, Hoyt Architects designed an extension and the overall modernisation of the house.
The main intervention is an extension on the ground floor on three sides of the house. The living room is now oriented towards the street side and with the extension the living space with a dining area and open kitchen will be enlarged on the garden side. The extension will have a large glass front for lots of light and direct contact with the garden.
In addition, the house will be modernized to meet the energy and comfort requirements of today. The facade will be insulated on the outside and provided with new steel frames.
With these interventions, the house becomes comfortable, energy efficient and looks like new again. (source)
